My name is Alicia Crespo, and I began teaching at Grace in 2003 when I moved here from Tennessee with my husband's job. With over 24 years of experience in both private schools and the Nashville Public School System, I bring a wealth of knowledge in general music, chorus, handbells, and piano. I hold BS in Vocal/General Music Education K-12 from Tennessee Technological University and have also received certification in Orff-Schulwerk techniques, Kindermusik (music education from birth to age 7) and LCMS colloquy from Concordia University in Seward, NE. I have performed professionally with the Nashville Opera and Nashville Symphony Chorus and maintain a private piano studio. I am an active member of the Grace church music ministry. My 2 daughters graduted from Grace and have moved on to be successful students in high school and college.
Students at Grace in our PreK-6th grade participate in general music classes twice a week. Classes are activity-based and incorporate singing, dancing, and playing instruments. I use a collaborative approach with classroom teachers, often using music to help reinforce concepts from math, language, history, religion, and literature.
4th and 5th graders participate in Recorder Karate, earning belts for their recorders as they advance in their skills in reading music and playing. Our 6th grade students continue to grow in music reading by learning to play the ukulele.
Our 7th and 8th grade students have a variety of music electives to choose from. I direct a handbell choir and a vocal choir, both of which consistently earn Superior ratings at competition.
