Happy last week of January! Here is this week's update:

*Our winter fest was so much fun! The kids adore their snow babies! Thank you to all the moms who helped us assemble them today.

*Friday is Fun Friday dress-down. You can pay your $3.00 in car line. I am not sure if we have a theme this month, but I would say let's wear red and pink for Valentine's Day in our class if there isn't a theme!

*February calendars will go home this week. I will send a list home for Valentine's cards next week.

*This week's memory verse is: "Believe and be baptized and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." -Mark 16:16

Our sight words are: out, ran, red, pretty

*Your children should be reading every night (or at least every other night) out of their reader books and those books should be returned in the folders each day because we do use them in class. The children who have advanced along in their reader book series are the ones who are reading diligently every night. Practice makes perfect! Thank you for all your hard work with your kids!

Academics:

This week, we will continue to work with folk tales and fairy tales and read some classic fables (The Boy Who Cried Wolf, The Crow and the Pitcher). We will read some folk tales from other countries and talk about the elements of each genre. We will work with verbs this week and learn how to add the suffix -ing to a verb. We will work with addition in lateral form and learn how to convert it to vertical form. In science, we will make "snow" and use units of measure to create our recipe. I would like for the kids to make "snow storms" in a bottle. If you have any empty water bottles, please send them in. In Social Studies, we will begin our two week unit on Presidents of the US. In Bible, we will be learning the story of Jesus calming the Storm and do a devotional for how to deal with fear and doubt.

Have a wonderful and blessed week everyone!
