Hello Kindergarten Families,
It is almost a new month already, so there will be a new calendar to arrive in your child's folder tomorrow. Make sure to check it often as their are lots of things going on both with the school and in class. Happy almost-November!
Here are this week's updates and activities:
*Monday is our P is for Pumpkin Party. You do not need to send in anything for this party. I have already purchased some snacks and little treats. We will also be doing a very fun pumpkin STEM activity. I will be sure to take pics for our fb page!
*As the weather is getting cooler and your child needs a sweater or jacket, I would like to send out a little reminder that the children may only wear Grace jackets, hoodies, or sweaters inside the building. The may wear any other type of outer wear outdoors on the playground and in car line. A form went home two weeks ago if you would like to order Grace outwear for your child. If you need a replacement form, just let us know.
*The deadline for ordering Grace outer wear is November 3rd.
*Our show-n-tell this week is something that represents the number "10", our number of the week. This one is sure to be a fun one and allows for lots of creativity! :)
*Please do a water bottle check for your child. We are finding lots of water bottles in disrepair with cracks, tops that won't open, straws that won't stay put, or lids that won't close. Since the children use them so much every day, it may just be time for a new one. :)
Here are this week's academics:
In language, we will be learning the blend ladders for the letters /Cc/ and /Kk/, also our letters for the week. Our sight words this week are: come, did , do. We will continue working on consonant-vowel-consonant words. By the way, I am so very happy with the progress the children are making in their reading skills. Last week was the first time I heard most of them reading fluently by using their sight words and decoding (sounding out) short three-letter words all by themselves. It was a beatufiul thing! :)
We will also learn about why bears hibernate as we read all about bears in reading and in science. We will have a special lesson on veterans as we learn about what a veteran is in social studies and why it is important that we honor them.
In math, we will continue working with patterns, adding one, and counting by 5s and 10s. We will also begin learning about base 10. Our number of the week is 10.
In Bible, we will learn about the Israelites journey into the Promised Land as we wrap up our several week study of the life of Moses. We will begin a month-long character development unit on thankfulness and being grateful.
Have a blessed week in the Lord!
